The Monroe County NY Volunteer Puppy Raisers for Guiding Eyes for the Blind

The puppies of the Monroe (NY) Region celebrated International Guide Dog Day by participating in a special school-wide assembly at East Rochester Elementary School. Nine puppies with their raisers joined graduate Joe Kristan and his Guide Lira on stage to tell the students the importance of working together as a team. Afterwards, the puppies got to meet the Kindergarten students to answer questions and get lots of good experience meeting children!

The puppies who participated were: Beau (with raiser Bethany), Regina (with raiser Shannon), Princely (with raisers Linda (photog) & Jim), Nick (with raiser Bonnie), Imanya (with raiser Karie), Nessie (with raiser Robbin), Gracie (with raiser Margaret), Alberta (with raiser Pam), and little Dustin (with raiser Michele).

On our most recent pups to pass their In-For-Training tests:

Eleni passed her IFT on 28 April 2008. She was interviewed to be a brood but she decided against it and instead, chose to enter Guide Dog training on May 1st.

Welcome to the Monroe County puppy raisers regional site for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. Our puppy raisers devote their love and time to raise a potential guide dog from eight weeks to maturity. We are responsible to teach manners, house train, and socialize our pups with varied situations and everyday experiences, while being especially careful to keep these valuable puppies safe.

The Guiding Eyes mission is to promote the dignity, security and independence of those without sight. Our goal is to support that mission by helping a puppy develop into a well adjusted, mannerly young adult. We share our love and time to help a blind or visually impaired person by giving a GEB puppy a special upbringing.
